My parents came out for the week of Thanksgiving, so this year was the first year we really celebrated Thanksgiving. We spent visiting the campo (countryside) as well as relaxing at the beach.

Time in Bramadero in January

The last month we had the opportunity to be in Bramadero twice. We played with the kids and also spent time with the adults. Some of the women showed me how to make a dessert called torrones, which are like popcorn balls.

Weekend at the beach

We spent last weekend at a beach on the north west coast of Nicaragua. The town is a small fishing village that is accustomed to foreigners visiting to enjoy the beach. The first day was overcast, but the second day we had a beautiful sunny day.

Our 10th Wedding Anniversary

We celebrated our 10 anniversary on July 9. We went to a movie and then a nice dinner at a beautiful restaurant on the hills outside of Managua.

Time in Colorado and Rapid City

We had the opportunity to spend two weeks with each of our families in June. We saw snow, slept with a comforter, ate all kinds of ethnic foods, played with nephews, played games with family, caught up with family and friends, helped my sister and her husband move into their first house, had a pedicure and manicure, spent my birthday with my family and went four wheeling, kayaking, climbing, hiking, golfing, miniature golfing, bowling and to two water parks.

Ecology Capacitation

Seth gave a capacitation to the 3-6 grade kids in the community of Son Zapote, where we finished a water project recently. He wanted the kids to understand that everything in nature is interrelated. The area is highly deforested and the kids are used to killing every animal because it is "harmful", so it was a much needed topic. Seth had them make webs to help them see how things are interrelated.

MCC Girls' Night

Recently we spent time in various communities: El Roblar, Bramadero and Son Zapote. We visited families, made and eat different types of food and did surveys.

Ricardo, a pastor friend, had a vision from God that he would find water in the corner section of his land, so he began digging with the help of his sons. All the work is done by hand and they have not been discouraged that they have not found water yet because they believe God is faithful to provide.

MCC Fun Day

We had an MCC Fun Day this past week. We went to Mombacho Volcano, which has one of the only two cloud forests in Nicaragua. There are beautiful views as well as much cooler temperatures than Managua. Five of us hiked the longer trail to see both craters, while the rest of the group hiked around the first crater. It was a great hike, but very strenuous.
